Vision and values
Above Bar Church exists to glorify God by seeking to make and mature disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ, so that in everything he might have the supremacy.
What we’re about
“I will bless you . . . all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” (Genesis 12:2–3) We believe that God has a plan to bless the whole world through his Son Jesus Christ. We are therefore deeply committed to bringing his blessing to the world through acts of practical love and words of truth about Jesus.
God loves to bless us, and we receive his blessing through his word and by his Spirit, as we grow as disciples of Jesus within the community of his people. From the overflow of God’s blessing to us, we are called to our mission of blessing the world, depending fully on him.
What we value
As we seek to recognise and celebrate the supremacy of Jesus in everything, we aim to become increasingly:
- Mission-focused: locally, nationally and internationally.
- Bible-centred: in our ethos and activities.
- God-dependent: expressed in prayer and expectation of the Holy Spirit’s work.
- An authentic community of people from many backgrounds who love and nurture each other as disciples of Jesus Christ.
What this means
We think it’s important that our vision and values actually shape what we do. So as God blesses us, we aim to be a blessing in our city, our world and in the wider church.
Blessing our city
- Transforming our city through communities of Christians (we call them Clusters) which are focused on blessing our neighbourhoods, our networks of friends and people in need.
- A city-centre building serving the community and offering clear teaching, vibrant worship and life-changing ministry through the week.
Blessing our world
-
All of us released to be partners in God’s plan to bless all the nations by reaching out to people of many nationalities.
- New partnerships with Christians in other nations enabling many of us to be involved in bringing the blessing of God to their communities and to our own.
- Excellence in identifying and supporting sent mission partners to serve in God’s global mission.
Blessing the wider church
- Sharing the resources God has given us with the wider church.
- Working to develop a centre to provide church-based training and development for ministry and mission.
