We’re a community of people who love God and want to follow his Son, Jesus Christ, in all of life. We love to share the life-transforming hope we have as a result of Jesus’s death and resurrection.
Everyone is welcome
Whether you’re old or young, single or married, with children or without, heading up a multi-national corporation or living on the streets, we believe that Jesus’s message is for you. Find out more about:

What we’re about
Near the beginning of the Bible, God made an extraordinary promise to an ordinary man, Abraham: "I will bless you . . . all peoples on earth will be blessed through you" (Genesis 12:2–3). We believe that God’s plan is to bless the whole world through his Son Jesus Christ. So we are deeply committed to bringing his blessing to the world through sharing the good news about Jesus and showing his love in practical action.
I’m new here!
As we are quite a large church, it could be quite intimidating when you first visit. Thankfully, our hospitality team, First Impressions, is on hand each Sunday to provide you with a great welcome and unlimited coffee (and tea, of course – all fair trade)! Please let someone know you’re new when you first arrive and we hope you will be welcomed well – we want to be known as a church with a big welcome!
Fill in one of our welcome cards on a Sunday and give it to the information desk in the lounge. We will contact you and let you know about newcomers groups various ways you could get involved. If you prefer, send an email to the church office. You can also contact the office if you have any questions.
Please sign up for our weekly email, which provides up-to-date news about our church community, using the form on this page. We would love to connect with you on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, too.
Mostly though, we want to welcome you face to face, so come along on a Sunday or pop into the church office using our side entrance on Ogle Road.
Where do I fit?
The best way to find out is to come and meet us. We like doing things together, so we meet centrally on Sunday in the Above Bar Church building.
We love to welcome new people by inviting them to our informal newcomers‘ groups. These run five times a year. They are held in a home and include a meal and an introduction to Above Bar Church. Each newcomers’ group runs once a week once a week for five weeks. It’s a great way of finding out more about what makes us tick as a church, and how you could fit in. Many people have integrated into the church through this route, which provides a chance to get to know other newcomers as well as more established members of the church. Find when the next newcomers group is running in our calendar.
We encourage everyone to be part of a home group – a place to make good friends, to care for each other, and to grow in your relationship with God by studying the Bible and praying together. We have groups right across the city, meeting in the homes of church members.
We also have a variety of missional communities, which are an important part of our church life. We would love you to connect with one of them, whether in your local neighbourhood or in a network such as film, football or Glo, our 18s–30s missional community.
