Blessed to be a blessing

God’s mission for the world

Child with globe Child with globe

We believe that the mission of God’s people arises from the mission and purpose of God himself: to bless all nations through his people, who are uniquely blessed by God himself.

Mission is our history

Above Bar Church has had a very long history of involvement in world mission and there is much to celebrate and give thanks for. Many of our mission partners articulate profound appreciation of the church’s support and commitment to them over years of service. We are thankful for the way God has used members of our church in the past to make and mature disciples of Jesus across the world. God has blessed us richly. God promised that he would bless the nations through his people, so we want to keep learning about our part in God’s global mission. It’s a privilege.

Mission is our future

What is the mission of God’s people? We stand with the Lausanne Covenant’s definition, that mission is the whole Church taking the whole gospel to the whole world. Our task, in Above Bar Church, is to find our unique place within this wider mission. We can’t do this everywhere, so we strive to see the whole of our church mobilised in taking the whole gospel to the whole communities in which he has placed us.

Mission, for us, is not from the west to the rest. It will be expressed through holistic partnerships with believers across the world, characterised by humility, mutuality and the expectation that both partners will both give and receive the blessing of God.

Mission involves us all

There are people from our church who are trying to be that blessing across the world. We are also seeking to build partnerships in certain areas of the world to serve their communities holistically and sustainably. We would love the whole church to contribute to these partnerships by serving on short-term teams, and to expect to receive rich blessing as they do so!
