Do you have money trouble? Do you wonder where it’s all gone at the end of the month? Do you have difficulty saving as much as you want to?

You could benefit from budget coaching! It aims to help you get started in having your own budget and to regain control of your finances.

Frequently asked questions about budget coaching

What will it teach me?

Budget coaching will show you at a glance:

• What money you have coming in.
• Where your money is going.
• In what areas you could consider cutting back or making savings to manage your money more efficiently.

What do I need to bring, and how long is the appointment?

You will be sent a letter (or email) 2-3 weeks before your appointment with details of paperwork you need to bring with you. It is usually bank statements (ideally for the past 6 months), pay slips, bills etc. These will assist the budget coach in understanding your situation, so they can help you. The appointment is likely to take about 1 hour 30 mins.

Where and when will the session take place? Can I choose either male or female coach?

An appointment will be made at Above Bar Church, where there are meeting rooms. It may be possible to have a daytime appointment, but it’s more likely to be in the evening.

You are free to choose a male or female coach but this may affect the date of available appointments. You are also welcome to bring a friend with you.

How many sessions can I have?

There could be 2 initial coaching sessions, plus a possible follow up session 6 to 9 months later, if required.

Will it help me with my debt problems?

No. This is about helping to manage the money you do have; if you are struggling with debt you can get help from CAP (Christians Against Poverty), by calling freephone 0800 328 0006.

How do I make an appointment with a Budget Coach?

Please contact the Above Bar Church office, and we’ll organise an appointment for you. We’ll need your address and contact details so that written information can be sent out to you ahead of your appointment. If you need to cancel, please contact the church office.

There is no charge for budget coaching sessions.
