Even the youngest children are an important part of Above Bar Church.
Fun. Biblical. These are some of the words people use to describe the children’s groups at Above Bar Church. Through the week and during the 9.15am service on Sundays we run groups for children from 0 to 11, where we teach children about God from the Bible in fun and engaging ways.
The children’s work is a key part of church life, so we work hard to make sure that the church’s vision and values are central to what we do.
Sundays: GSMA
Children of all ages are welcome at our 9.15am service, when we run GSMA (Great Sunday Morning Adventure) for children aged 0–11. (For 11–18 year-olds, read the Youth pages.) The children usually stay with their parents for the first part of the service, and then leave for teaching and activities in various groups. But sometimes we have all-age services, and then the children stay with their parents for the whole service.
Crèche: for babies (who aren’t yet mobile) and for toddlers (who are mobile, in their way).
GSMA: split into groups for 2s–4s, 4s–5s, 5s–7s and 7s–11s.
Come along on Sundays at 9.15am for a great Sunday morning adventure!
Wednesdays: WOW
Wednesdays get pretty wacky for children aged 7 to 11! WOW happens on Wednesdays during term-time, 6pm–7.30pm, in the church building. It’s a fantastic club for children from the church and their friends, run by a dedicated and creative team of leaders.
There is a fun programme of activities around a theme, including: big games nights, craft activities, cooking, scrap-heap challenges, sleepovers and more. There is also a short interactive talk about something from the Bible, helping children to understand something more of the Christian faith. (We make a small charge of 50p for WOW each week, plus up to 10p for tuck.)
Speak to Jane Watkins on Sunday or contact the church office if you’re interested in coming along to WOW. The best way to find out more is to try it!
