It was a great year. Baked Alaskas were melting, builders were baking, and at the age of 17 Martha Collison whisked her way into the quarter-final of the Great British Bake-Off.
A high achievement for someone still doing her AS levels. Spurred on by her experience on the Bake-Off, Martha now has her fingers in many baking-related pies - giving baking demonstrations, writing weekly newspaper columns as well as her own recipe books.
It could be quite easy to leave it there.
Martha’s chosen to use her knowledge and skills within baking to try and combat rising problems: human trafficking and sexual exploitation.
She’s working alongside charities like Tearfund, as well as being part of the Bramber Bakehouse team. To find out how and, more importantly, why Martha does what she does - come to Real Lives on Thursday 12th October at Above Bar Church.
