When was the last time Above Bar Church had all their Sent Mission Partners together in one room? Answer: Never!
But on Friday 4 May 2018 all 16 of our Sent Mission Partners (SMPs) shared a meal together and encouraged one another with what God had been doing in and through them as part of our celebration weekend.
One Sent Mission Partner commented to another, ‘The last time I saw you, your daughter, who is now married with four children, was in nappies!’
On the Sunday morning each of our SMPs were invited to stand and share briefly about who they were and where they served in the world. A number in the church family were so inspired to hear from people who they’d only seen on a screen. Then on Sunday evening we hosted the 60-year celebration of Operation Mobilisation which included acknowledging Mark and Esther Dimond, two of our SMPs, who have been serving with OM Ships for 40 years!
Throughout the weekend we thanked God that through our SMPs we’ve been involved with Bible translation in Madagascar, Papua New Guinea and some Muslim-majority nations; Church planting in Spain and France; disciple-making and church-building in Latvia, the Middle east and China; enabling the first group of students graduate as accredited physiotherapists in Uganda; producing materials that have been translated into languages all over the world.
Also in 2017-18 we’ve helped to deliver conferences, seminars and lectures in Poland, Germany, Norway, Cayman Islands and Latin America. We’ve sent short-term teams to Lebanon, Ukraine and Logos Hope (in the Dominican Republic) and been involved with scores of conferences, camps and missions in the UK.
God blesses us so we can be a blessing to others. It was amazing how Psalm 67 kept on being repeated throughout the celebration weekend. The children learned it and recited it on Sunday morning and Matthew Skirton, OM UK Director, preached from it in the evening.
So, may God be gracious to us and bless us, and make His face shine on us, so that His ways may be known on earth, His salvation among all nations.
