Transform Workers (Transformers) 2018

On Sunday 9th September, we welcomed nine new people onto our team! Read on to find out who they are and how they are looking forward to their work.

Ollie Watkins, Transform Worker

Ollie Watkins 2018I’ve just finished my A-levels, so Transform will be my first year out of full time education since I was 4! I’ve grown up in Above Bar Church as a part of the children and youth work, and also have been serving in both areas. I have a passion for baking, creating, and learning, as well as a desire to grow in my faith and love of God. Over the year I hope to learn more about God, and work out my plans for the future!

Sarah Williams, Transform Worker

Sarah WilliamsI’ve been at Above Bar Church for four years, and I’ve just graduated from the University of Southampton with a Masters in Marine Biology. I love fish, but I also love Jesus, which is why I want to spend the next year not in a graduate job or internship, but learning more about Him and how I can better love and serve Him when I go out into the real world (eek!). This year I’m helping with WOW, GSMA and the English Language Café, and I look forward to meeting and getting to know more of this awesome church family!

Rachel Jobson, Transform Worker

Rachel JobsonI’ve just finished a degree in Modern Languages at the University of Southampton. I’ve been going to Above Bar Church since my first year, although I was kindly looked after by a Brazilian church during my year abroad (2017-18). This year I’ll be mainly involved with Christians Against Poverty and the English Language Café, as well as helping out with children’s work during the week. I’m super excited to be a part of different ministries, and am looking forward to getting to know my church family better!

Rachel Di Nucci, Transform Worker

Rachel Di NucciI’ve been at Above Bar Church for three years and have recently graduated from Solent University studying for a BA in English. When you can’t find my nose buried in a book, you can find me singing songs from musicals or making obscure references. I want to follow Jesus in all areas of my life, which is why I’ve decided to do Transform so that I can go into my future job with Him at the centre. This year I’ll be helping out in WOW, GSMA and Cameo. I’m looking forward to meeting people and being more involved.

Sofía Bianchi, Transform Worker

Sofia BianchiI am 19 years old and I come from Argentina. I live with my parents and my brother in a town besides the sea in Buenos Aires, where we attend church. I finished high school last year so we thought that I could take a year to learn and serve. We heard about the Transform programme and valued the opportunity it presented to grow in knowing God and serving with people in a different culture. This year I’ll serve in different ministries including children, Cameo and First Impressions. I am looking forward to meeting you all!

Jared Blackford, Transform Worker

Jared BlackfordI have just graduated from Southampton University where I studied engineering. I enjoy playing squash and watching sports like Formula 1 and rugby. I’m really looking forward to starting Transform and getting to know more people in the church: so come and say hello! I will be helping with student work, big breakfast and GSMA. It’s going to be great to be involved in so many different areas within the church.

Simeon Carter, Transform Worker

Simeon CarterI moved to Southampton three years ago to study Philosophy at Southampton University. These years have grown in me not only a love for my subject (be careful asking me about anything vaguely philosophical - I will talk...) but also for cooking, cycling and classic TV shows. Most importantly, however, it’s been a time where I’ve come to say the faith I grew up around became my own. I see Transform as an opportunity to grow further in my love and knowledge of God through serving as part of the Student Team, including running a 1-2-1, working with First Impressions and helping with some pastoral admin. And I’m very excited to get started with Formation School!

Beth Devonish, STEP Trainee (Students)

Bethany DevonishI’m really excited to be serving the students and wider church in this way by using my God-given gifts to bless others.

In my spare time, I like to learn new things and spend time hanging out with friends and getting to know people.

Katherine Trollope, Associate Children’s Worker

Katherine Trollope 2018I’ll be working part-time alongside Jane and Hannah as part of the Children’s team. I will help facilitate groups, train leaders and disciple the children within our church family. For the last couple of years I have been working as a Primary School teacher in Southampton, which is something that I will continue to be doing part-time, alongside my church role. In my spare time I enjoy playing hockey (currently playing for Trojans Hockey Club) and spending time with my friends and family. I love working with children and their families and being able to have the privilege of sharing Jesus with them.
