Being Jesus to people in need

Paul Webber 2019 Paul Webber Former Minister
CHR - Appeal

Christmas is about giving and it’s important to give to those who have great needs. God gave us his Son to reach out to us in our desperate need. This year our Christmas appeal will support three charities: Heart for Lebanon, Basics Bank and Christians Against Poverty (CAP).

These charities make a real difference in people’s lives and the money raised from our Christmas appeal will help to make that great work possible for another year.

Heart for Lebanon

Since 2011, Lebanon has taken in 1.5 million registered Syrian refugees. It’s estimated that another 500,000 are not registered. Lebanon has a population is 4 million. Imagine 30 million refugees moving to the UK! How would we cope? Lebanon is struggling to cope. Prices in Lebanon have risen 35-40% since November 1, 2019 and it has a 35% unemployment rate with many blaming the illegal hiring of Syrian refugees for this high rate. Heart for Lebanon is a faith-based ministry that employs a holistic approach to serving the many marginalized people in Lebanon, including the increasing number of Syrian and Iraqi refugees.

Basics Bank

Basics Bank is a Southampton-based charity that works with referral agencies to provide emergency food and clothes to those who fall through the gaps in the benefit net. In 2018, 10,219 people were fed with 5 days’ worth of food and 1,364 people clothed. So far in 2019, 11,428 people have been fed and 1,641 people clothed.

Christians Against Poverty (CAP), Southampton

In the last two years, our CAP Debt Centre has touched over 199 families who are struggling with the burden of debt. At least 55 of these have gone debt free and over 25 have made commitments to Jesus. We are aiming to give a hamper to each of our clients for Christmas.

Your gift will make a real difference.
