The Refresh project so far

CAP Debt Centre

Ros_BriggsWe are thrilled that we have been able to set up a CAP (Christians Against Poverty) Centre in the church, and appoint Ros Briggs (left) as centre manager and debt coach. It is exciting to work in partnership with such a great organisation and two other CAP Centres in Southampton. Alongside Ros, a team of people offer practical and emotional support to our clients.

For more information, see our CAP Debt Centre page and Ros’s reflections on the prayer night focused on CAP in May 2015, or contact Ros.

Social Action Development Worker

Ruth_SpradberyAbove Bar Church’s social action work has developed enormously over the last few years, and Ruth Spradbery (left) has been right at the centre of it. So we were excited to be able to appoint her to the new post of Social Action Development Worker in 2015. Her role is to co-ordinate our various social action ministries, including Big Breakfast and More 2 Life.

For more information, please contact Ruth.

Full-time Head of Youth Work

Aaron Griffin

In the summer of 2014, Dan Simpkins moved on to Portswood Church after four years as Assistant Minister with Responsibility for Youth. Aaron Griffin (left) was only part-time in his role as youth worker. We decided we needed a full-time Head of Youth Work to ensure that this area of church life was adequately resourced, and were delighted to be able to appoint Aaron to this role.

If you’d like to know more, read about Above Bar Church’s youth ministry or contact Aaron.

Neil and Laura Thompson

Neil and Laura Thompson

Refresh is not only about what happens in Southampton, but also about our wider ministries. So part of the first phase of Refresh included commissioning Neil and Laura Thompson as Sent Mission Partners. Based in Westport, Co. Mayo, Ireland, Neil and Laura are church workers for Calvary Church, Westport, on behalf of Operation Mobilisation Ireland.

You can read more about Neil and Laura on our Sent Mission Partners page.

Lounge Redevelopment

Phase 1 of the building refurbishment is the redevelopment of the lounge. This involves replacing the toilets with modern facilities in a reconfigured space, a new servery, a new information desk and bookstall, new doors into the auditorium, and the addition of information screens. This work is now complete, and we are planning the next phase. Read more on the Refresh homepage.
